Delaware & Lehigh - Critical Links and Crossings: Construction Projects Underway on the D&L Trail
Share

We are excited to announce that long-awaited work has finally begun on several major D&L Trail construction projects.

The Carbon County Connectivity Project launched with a grand ground-breaking and a great deal of media attention.  Three critical links will connect three Carbon County communities so that bicyclists will be now be able to securely ride from Weissport to Lehighton, Lehighton to East Penn Township and then East Penn Township to Lehigh Gap across Route 895.  This is the first of a series of trail construction projects with our partner, Carbon County, as the grantee and the D&L is managing on their behalf. We thank Carbon County for being the grantee for both this project and the Carbon County Pedestrian Bridge Project, which will be out for bid in a few weeks through PennDOT.

Later this year, work will begin on the railroad crossing portion of the Middleburg Road pedestrian crossing, which will connect the Lehigh Gorge State Park and Black Diamond sections of the D&L Trail in Luzerne County.

In the Lehigh Valley, work will soon begin on clearing the trail from Northampton to Dry Run for installation of the Dry Run Pedestrian Bridge. Installation of this bridge is the first step in construction of the trail from Northampton to North Catasauqua.

In Bucks County, construction has started on Green Lane.  This project is expected to be completed within the month and includes curb work and flashing beacons.
