Delaware & Lehigh - Making Connections: D&L Trail Construction Update

This year’s construction season projects bring us much closer to completing
the entire 165-mile D&L trail. Here are the latest updates:

Luzerne County

Middleburg Road Pedestrian Crossing – This crossing will result in a safe
connection between Lehigh Gorge State Park and the Black Diamond section
of the D&L Trail. DCNR Bureau of Forestry is the project sponsor using PennDOT
Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding.

Carbon County

Jim Thorpe Pedestrian Bridge – This long-awaited $3.1 million project is on the
verge of being bid. The final hurdle is a temporary construction easement
from Norfolk Southern Railroad. Carbon County is the project sponsor using
TAP funding.

Carbon County Connectivity Project – This two-part project is awaiting
final approval of a PennDOT pedestrian crossing permit for Route 895 in East
Penn Township as well as site control of the parcel behind Castle Grill owned
by Lehighton Sewer Authority.

Northampton County

Dry Run Pedestrian Bridge – Bid process to commence in June. D&L is the
project sponsor using DCED funding

North Catasauqua Storm Pipe Repair – Complete

Bucks County

Green Lane – PennDOT will finish road work this summer with pedestrian
improvements expected to be completed in the fall.
