Celebrate National Trails Day along the D&L Trail on June 3! American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day challenges you to hit the trail, make new friends, and find an adventure. Find an event near you and join the celebration.

D&L Trail – Jim Thorpe North Trailhead: Explore the D&L Trail in Lehigh Gorge State. There are 36 miles of rail trail travel alongside the Lehigh River between D&L Trail – Jim Thorpe and the D&L Trail – Black Diamond Trailheads. The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor will be there with updates on the trail, Carbon County Pedestrian Bridge construction, and trail maps.

Weissport: Weissport was founded by Colonel Jacob Weiss, a soldier in the Revolutionary War and a local affluent businessman. Weissport’s Founder’s Day will be held from noon to 6 p.m. June 3. The event includes festivities that celebrate both the 150 years of the 1867 incorporation as a borough and the 1792 founding of the borough. Lehigh Gap Nature Center: Celebrate National Trails Day with LGNC and the D&L. Enjoy family-friendly activities, including a Butterfly Safari, Life in a Pond, and Birding Around the Osprey House. The day will culminate with a hike up Translater Lane to the top of the mountain by dusk. Bring your sense of adventure! Stop by the D&L table to pick up a trail map, National Canal Museum brochure, and more!

D&L Trail – Slatington Trailhead: Lehigh Township Rails to Trails will have a display with brochures and trail maps, snacks, and water available in at the trailhead from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

National Canal Museum: Join us for the season opening of the National Canal Museum! Take a ride on the Josiah White II Canal Boat, picnic in the newly improved Hugh Moore Park, explore the hands-on exhibits in the museum, and rent a bike or boat!

D&L Trail – Hugh Moore Park Trailhead: Explore the D&L Trail in Hugh Moore Park. The D&L Trail passes through Hugh Moore Park as it follows the Lehigh River. The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor will have an information table at the D&L Trail – Hugh Moore Park Trailhead to provide trail maps and advice on ways to get out and explore the trail.

Freemansburg Canal Education Center: Explore history on the D&L Trail. Visit the Freemansburg Canal Education Center and take a tour of the canal bed and mule barn. D&L Staff and volunteers will be there to answer questions and teach you local history. You can also follow the historic towpath route as you hike or bike along the trail. Stop by the D&L table to pick up a trail map, National Canal Museum brochure, and more!

StepOutdoors Lehigh Valley: Step Outdoors Lehigh Valley is a free family festival celebrating all things outdoors at SteelStacks in Bethlehem! Filled with dynamic presentations, hands-on activities and tons of fun, this event is designed to introduce children and their families to the wonders of the world around them. This year, guests will enjoy activities and presentations by more than 25 different organizations focusing on conservation, wildlife, and outdoor recreation.
