Delaware & Lehigh - The Remembrance Ride: Celebrating Memorial Day on the D&L Trail
Share

Guest Post by: Charles Hellings

Memorial Day was established to remember and honor those who lost their lives while serving in our country’s armed forces.  My son Ryan and I created the Remembrance Ride to do the same. “If not me, then who.” These words spoken by 1st Lt. Travis Manion shortly before he left for Iraq in April 2007 have inspired a national movement to “honor the fallen by challenging the living.” On June 4 and 5, the weekend after Memorial Day, a group of 22 cyclists will set out to ride 75 miles on the D&L Trail and tributaries in support of the The Travis Manion Foundation. Over a period of two days, the Remembrance Ride will create a living memorial to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We will be riding from Mountaintop, PA to Bethlehem, PA and finishing at SteelStacks. Our goal is to raise funds for The Travis Manion Foundation. Last year’s charter ride generated $1,000 and this year our goal is $2,500.

While the event is at full capacity, there is a way that you can help!  The Travis Manion Foundation has earned a rating of 91.18 out of 100 by Charity Navigator.  They really are a great organization doing amazing things for the families of our fallen heroes.  100% of any donation is tax deductible.  If you feel our efforts and this cause are worthy, any donation would be extremely valuable and greatly appreciated in helping us exceed our goal.  The link below will take you to our donation page.

Finally, thank you for taking the time to read about the Remembrance Ride.  May we forever remember those who have given us our freedom and may we continuously thank those who preserve it.
