The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor just welcomed Miranda Alvarez of Easton, Pa. as Community Engagement Manager. Please give her a shout out the next time you see Miranda at a community event or in the Canal Museum. Her role is to serve as the storyteller for the D&L and National Canal Museum and manage media relations, event promotions, and social media. She’ll also oversee volunteer engagement, including the D&L Ambassador program.

Not only does Miranda come to the D&L with experience working in PR/marketing, she’s proud to say she volunteers locally and abroad with L.E.G.I.T. There, she helps lead communications and works with children during day camps. She most recently served in the Communications department of the Chesapeake Conference in Columbia, Md., assisting with promotion, social media, and print coverage of events. She aided in the development and distribution of the Chesapeake Conference social media and weekly Currents newsletter and designed promotional flyers and event programs.

Locally, Miranda has worked as a public relations intern at Lehigh Mining and Navigation in Bethlehem. She assisted the ad agency in copywriting, editing, and pitching stories to secure media coverage. Some of her big successes include landing a client a feature as a Lehigh Valley Style’s Men of Style and securing Telemundo 65’s coverage of ArtsQuest’s SoccerFest.

In her spare time, Miranda is passionate about reading and writing fiction and creative non-fiction, walking, cooking, and dancing to Latinx music. English is her first language, but after spending a summer with her abuela in the Dominican Republic, she forgot it and had to entirely relearn. Today, in addition to English, she also speaks fluent Spanish and conversational French.

Miranda holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English literature and media studies from Cedar Crest College. She was Editor in Chief of The Crestiad college newspaper and marketing assistant for the college’s Performing Arts department. We are excited she’s becoming a part of the team here, helping us to tell the story of this treasured National Heritage Corridor, speak out in the community about our mission, and help enhance and protect the treasures of the D&L Trail and Corridor region.
