The Italian Connection
History, Italian Dinner Cruise, Entertainment, Lock Experience – Cost $50 per person
National Canal Museum archivist and local historian Martha Capwell Fox and the Lou Pettinelli Band combine to tell the history of the Italian immigration to the Lehigh Valley – through stories and songs – in the latter part of the 19th century. Immigrants from Italy were integral to the growth of the slate business in the towns of Roseto, Bangor and Pen Argyl in Northampton County. Martha explains why they came to America and how Italian culture spread throughout the valley after they arrived. Lou and his band will play many traditional Italian songs. And of course, Culinary Experts will provide a terrific Italian buffet. BYOB – wine & beer only.
This cruise will include a lift lock experience in Lock 47 at the lower end of the canal in Hugh Moore Park. You’ll experience how canal boats were lowered and raised in the old days as they traveled from one section of the canal to another.
