Support the D&L Trail

This letter is to urge your full support of the D&L Trail: Northampton to North Catasauqua project. This project is part of a much larger multi-municipal development with a construction cost estimate is $1,316,000, and I support the strategy to apply for grants from multiple sources: the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Department of Community and Economic Development, and Northampton County to complete the project.
Our goal is to connect the two existing D&L Trail sections located north of Cementon (57 miles) and south of Allentown (65 miles) by closing a portion of this 7-mile Lehigh Valley gap, with rail-trail on the west side of the Lehigh River and towpath on the east side. This would create a unique 14-mile loop that will become an asset for both regional and local transportation and outdoor tourism.
This project route will become an immediate asset to both Northampton & Lehigh County residents, commuters, recreational trail users, and visitors. It will help connect a major section of THE LINK, the Lehigh Valley’s burgeoning trail network, and close a critical gap on what will make the D&L, Pennsylvania’s longest multi-use trail.
