Bike-In, Bike-Out: D&L Trail Offers Access to Festival Parking

This festival season, skip the traffic and ride straight into the fun! The D&L Trail is just one of many trail systems that connect you to the festivals and events you love.

A quick search of the 2025 Pennsylvania Festival Guide | Festival Guides and Reviews for this weekend turned up over 50 festival options across the Keystone State. Many of these festivals are located in the Corridor—and some are directly along the D&L Trail.

Did you know one of the country’s largest and most well-attended festivals takes place in the Lehigh Valley, right along the D&L Trail in Bethlehem? This year, Musikfest kicks off on Thursday, July 31st, and runs through Sunday, August 10th. Pedalplatz—German for “pedal place”— is the designated area for locking up bikes during the festival. Located near The Ice House on Sand Island, it’s open to cyclists throughout the event. This free parking alternative is a great way to enjoy Musikfest without the hassle of finding a parking spot once you arrive. If you’re planning to use the D&L Trail or access Pedalplatz, it’s recommended that you park outside the Musikfest footprint and bike in.

During regular festival hours, vehicular access to Sand Island (including vehicles with bike racks) is not permitted without an official Musikfest parking pass for one of the designated lots (SI, AM, or ZZ). Additionally, access to Sand Island is restricted on Sunday, August 10th, near the tennis courts from approximately 1 p.m. until after the fireworks end and the area is cleared by organizers.

Organizers often encourage guests to use green transportation options, such as biking or walking via the local trail system, to reduce their carbon footprint and ease the common challenge of limited parking. Many of these events are especially welcoming to trail users—promoting safety, offering designated bike parking areas, and even providing reduced or free parking options. The result? Less traffic and congestion, more available parking, and an overall better experience—not to mention more money for the things you really want to buy!

Musikfest is just one of many community events that encourages guests to arrive on two wheels! Be sure to check event details for “additional parking” or “green transportation” options to see what kind of pedal parking is available. When in doubt, contact event organizers for more information. If you’re hosting a festival or event along the D&L Trail that’s pedal-friendly, send us an email with the details: economicdevelopment@delawareandlehigh.org.

So, grab your bike lock, buddy up, and ride into fun festivals and events along the D&L Trail!
