Falling Leaves Reveal New Trail

The Northampton to North Catasauqua Trail Section that spans from MM 80-81.5 is set to open after a year of construction! Refresh your memory with a look back at our post 1 year ago when we celebrated the Groundbreaking for this project.

Local government, grant funders and trail partners will gather on September 26th for a Ribbon Cutting to officially open the 1.5-miles of improved trail. This project included a new pedestrian bridge over a historic lock gate, a “living wall” that will support and protect the trail with green infrastructure, and intensive grading to make the trail accessible for all.  

Grant funders for this project included the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Northampton County, and the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. This trail section is owned by North Catasauqua and Northampton boroughs.

Please check our Web Map for current updates before planning any excursions on the D&L Trail.  

  • The Delaware Canal region was one of the most heavily damaged sections of the D&L Trail after Tropical Storm Ida.
    • Caution advisements remain between the Forks of the Delaware and the Virginia Forrest Recreation Area trailheads.
    • Closures at MM 43 and MM 31.1 remain closed to trail users.  
  • Northampton – North Catasauqua: Complete, open and improved– Trail improvements for the Northampton to North Catasauqua section have been completed and the trail is open. 
  • North Catasauqua – Catasauqua: Complete, open and improved– Trail improvements for the Northampton to North Catasauqua section have been completed and the trail is open to the Catasauqua municipal boundary.
  • Glen Onoko – Jim Thorpe: Complete, open and improved– D&L Trail repairs are complete. 
  • Durham Aqueduct – Tinicum Park: Obstruction within trail section – The towpath is closed from Narrowsville Lock to Island Road Bridge (MM 47-48).
  • Morrisville – Bristol Lagoon: Obstruction within trail section – There is a towpath closure at Bridge Street (MM 9-10) due to construction of new pedestrian crossing.
