Delaware & Lehigh - Trail Friendly Business Spotlight: A.F. Boyer Hardware
Share

The D&L Trail would not be anything without the incredible work of the hundreds of partners who have been involved in the planning, construction, and maintenance of the D&L Trail. One of these contributors (and also one of our committed D&L Trail Friendly Businesses) is the long-time family run shop in Slatington known as A.F. Boyer Hardware. Believe it or not, the shop has been running for 152 years. It’s been passed on through the hands of 5 generations. As a result, they stand as the oldest family run hardware & gun shop in the whole country!

Allan and his son, Abel, are the most recent operators and are passionate about the D&L Trail. Fun fact: Abel completed his eagle-scout project on a section of the trail. Additionally, they donated a great deal of labor and money to help build the Slatington trailhead and visitor’s center. Today, they continue to support the trail and its users. For instance, they provide free water bottle refills, pump tires, and stock an assortment of bike related gear.

Abel, the 5th generation of A.F. Boyer Hardware, detailed how people love to come to their store to see the history of the place. In fact, some people have driven four hours just to come and visit! It is no wonder, as the there is definitely something special about walking into a hardware store. It’s full of history. It’s one of the few places that still sell nails by the pound. Yet, they carry just about every old and modern thing you would need for any project big or small.

So, whether you are looking to sharpen your lawn mower, pick up a few tools, purchase a gun, receive a fishing license, or simply stop in to chat and fill up some water, A.F. Boyer is there to help you have the best experience possible. They are open Monday to Saturday from 8am on. Check the website for exact hours as they change each day.
