Trail Volunteer Trainings are held in person in the Spring and Summer/Fall of each year. The Spring 2025 training date and location will be announced in early 2025.
Join us for a combined D&L Trail Patrol and Adopt-A-Section of D&L Trail volunteer training for prospective volunteers to learn about both programs, time commitments and responsibilities, and receive the tools needed to complete the program objectives. Trainings also include “mobile” activities along the D&L Trail to test the skills you learned during the presentation portion of the day.
Trail Patrol: Through this program, volunteers serve as the “eyes and ears” of the D&L Trail. They patrol the trail on bicycle or foot at least twice a month, April through October, in all five counties answering visitors’ questions and reporting back about fallen trees, erosion, and trail maintenance issues. This training workshop will give interested volunteers the tools they need to become Formal Trail Patrollers. Visit the Trail Patrol webpage for more information: https://delawareandlehigh.org/volunteer/trail-patrol/.
Adopt-A-Section of D&L Trail: This program is an off-shoot of the D&L Trail Tenders Program. Adopt-A-Section of D&L Trail volunteers are the “stewards” of the D&L Trail. Through this program individuals, families, organizations, businesses and schools will volunteer to support the maintenance of a section of trail, typically between two trailheads, and maintain it through the year. Activities include sign cleaning, litter removal, brush removal, and other “light” tasks. Visit the Trail Tender webpage for more information: https://delawareandlehigh.org/volunteer/trail-tenders/
If you would like to Adopt-A-Section along the Delaware Canal, south of Easton, reach out to the Friends of the Delaware Canal to join their Canal Tender program.
