The National Canal Museum depends on a variety of volunteers to run its programs. Welcoming individuals of all walks of life with enthusiasm for our industrial heritage, the National Canal Museum invites volunteers to fill the following roles:
Docents and Guides: The National Canal Museum is seeking friendly, enthusiastic volunteers (age 16+) to serve as museum docents/guides for its 2019 season (June – December). Guides help bring our region’s history to life for visitors and aid their interaction with museum exhibits. Training and reading materials are provided. Weekly or biweekly shifts are available Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00-4:30. These volunteers should be comfortable speaking with individuals and groups and be able to work on the exhibit floor for up to four consecutive hours.
Visitor Service Volunteers: (age 16+) to act as greeters or assist in the Museum’s gift shop for its 2019 season (June – December). Greeters welcome all visitors and answer general questions. Gift shop volunteers handle sales transactions and must feel comfortable using a cash register (training provided). Weekly or biweekly shifts are available Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00-4:30.
Gardeners: The National Canal Museum is seeking volunteers with green thumbs to help plant and maintain gardens and planters throughout Hugh Moore Park in Easton (April-October). Hours are flexible based on the volunteers’ availability. All tools and materials are provided.
Immersion Days Volunteers: Starting on April 22, for seven weeks of Immersion Days field trips, we need enthusiastic, curious people who inspire young people to enjoy our local history and exploring the wonders of science around them.
Field Trip Docents: Freemansburg Canal Education Center field trip docents during business hours the first three weeks of October. We provide training for each field trip two weeks prior. Monday through Friday is ideal but willing to take volunteers that are only available for a few weekdays.
