For the past several years, we at the D&L have considered Cementon (mile 83) our southern cap to the many miles bikeable south of the Jim Thorpe gap. We are happy to say that this has been extended to the southern end of Northampton Canal Street Park! Due to a decision made by Northampton Borough in the summer of 2017, cyclists are now allowed to use the beautiful paved path running the course of the park which makes this another multi-use section of the D&L Trail. This is a paved path and is used by walkers very frequently so please use extra caution and be courteous to other trail users. Cyclists always yield to pedestrians.

This new connection adds about 1.5 miles to the trail heading south! The icing on the cake is that this new extension can be used to access the Nor-Bath Trail, which has recently had some excellent improvements thanks to Northampton Borough and Northampton County.

Looking for an extra-long ride? Start at the beginning of the Nor-Bath near the Borough of Bath, ride west to the D&L Trail in Northampton, head north on the D&L Trail to the connecting Slate Heritage Trail spur in Slatington. After riding out to the end of the Slate Heritage Trail and back to the D&L Trail, you can cross over the Lehigh River to Walnutport and ride the 3.9 miles of D&L Trail – Walnutport Canal Spur, then go back across the river to Slatington and continue north on the D&L Trail all the way to Weissport!

I like to call the D&L the interstate of the Lehigh Valley with its connections to multiple other trails. If you are looking to explore beyond the D&L Trail, keep an eye out for our new intersection signs. These signs are designed with you in mind. We want users to quickly and easily see when the D&L Trail intersects with one of our great partner trails.
