Delaware & Lehigh - Getting Ready For the New Year
Share

A Message From Mandy

We are in the midst of holidays and there is so much to be grateful for. The beauty of winter along the D&L Trail, amazing volunteers, a successful D&L Heritage Half Marathon Run/Walk in November, and the announcement of $7 million in funding to support connecting the D&L Trail in and around Allentown are at the top of my gratitude list. With so many projects moving forward, the end of the year is a wonderful time to take a step back and celebrate the successes of the year and thank those, like you, who helped make it possible! Thank you!

Embracing the Winter Chill

I look forward to spending a few hours a week out on the D&L Trail, practicing winter tree identification and honing my bird watching skills. Without the leaves, it is much easier to spot wildlife and snap the perfect picture of the sunset along the canal. The first snowfall of the year is always beautiful and fun. Snow shoeing and cross-country skiing are allowed along most sections of the D&L Trail as well, so there are plenty of activities to do with the family.

With the proper gear, such as wool socks, waterproof shoes, layers of clothes, hats, and gloves, the cooler months can be a wonderful time to spend outdoors. And don’t forget to mark your calendars! Plan a first day hike to start the year off in nature.

On to the Next

As the year comes to a close, we hope you will consider supporting the DLNHC’s annual fund. This fund directly upholds the DLNHC’s mission to preserve, interpret and leverage the nationally significant history of the over 165-mile transportation route between Wilkes-Barre and Bristol with programs related to the D&L Trail and the National Canal Museum.

I hope that you and your loved ones have a season filled with joy.

See you in the new year!
