Share

Warmer days and weekends are just around the corner and April is the perfect time to get outside to soak up some spring sunshine. If you are anything like me, that means you are gearing up for bike rides, hiking, and exploring new businesses along the D&L Trail!

April is not only Earth Month, but there is also a full week coined “Green Week” which runs April 20 – 27. In addition, there are three days throughout the month to focus on making our world a little greener.

Earth Day is officially on April 22 but will be observed on April 20 in many communities, Arbor Day is April 26, and Celebrate Trails Day is on April 27. DLNHC is celebrating by hosting a trail cleanup contest, “Quest for the Golden Grabber,” throughout Earth Week. Many Trail Towns and volunteer groups are already signed up to participate; we’ll be releasing a full listing soon.

April 28 kicks off Small Business Week through the Small Business Administration. Naturally, DLNHC encourages you to support all small (and large) businesses year-round, but now is a great time to show them some extra love. You can find a full list of Trail Friendly Businesses on our website.

If you are looking for ways to combine your love for small businesses and our planet, you can stop in at one of our certified Trail Friendly Businesses that have great options!

Terra Cotta Green Market in Bristol, a sustainable lifestyle market offering package-free goods and plant-based dishes centered around local, organic, and fair-trade foods, is a good place to check out.  They can help you stock your pantry with reusable snack bags, bees wax food wrap, tote bags, utensils, and more!  They are also hosting workshops to help you on your journey toward sustainability.

Circle 25 Gifts in White Haven takes sustainability to a new level with their handmade repurposed materials gifts, local honey and maple syrup, handmade soaps and lotions, and more.

These are just two examples; you can find plenty of businesses along the trail with earth friendly options!

We know that you love the Earth as much as we do, so when you are out enjoying the trails and nature around you this spring, be sure to leave no traces and find trash and recycling receptacles to dispose of any garbage you may have.
