…the Lehigh Gap Nature Center and a group of civic organizations in northern Lehigh County, both of which kicked off construction projects in the last month.Construction is underway on a community building for the Slatington trailhead.

In Slatington, several civic groups have joined forces to begin construction of the Slatington Trailhead Community Building. When complete, this slate and timber building will serve users of both the D&L and Slate Heritage trails and host various community events. This is the latest undertaking of the group, which previously constructed a slate restroom and a covered bridge on the Slate Heritage Trail.Completed last year, a new restroom services the Slate Heritage Trail.

Up the road a little further at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, work is underway on a large building expansion that will eventually create additional classroom and meeting space for the Center’s myriad programs and events. Keep your eye on developments here! Dan Kunkle, the executive director, is quickly turning this place into the region’s premier site for environmental education and research. The Lehigh Gap is a must see.Senator Argall, Dan Kunkle, and others break ground on an addition to the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

The D&L is proud of the efforts of our partners and hopes that a completed D&L Trail and our other efforts will supplement their important projects.
