Guest post by Tracy Eisenreich, participant in D&L Heritage Half Marathon on November 1, 2015
#IRun4Keegan . . . That simple hashtag has changed my life. I am Tracy and I am a runner. Through some local running friends, I heard about the I Run 4 Program (www.whoirun4.com). This program matches runners with men, women, and children with special needs. In February 2015, I was matched with Keegan, a 9 year-old boy from Nevada. Although Keegan and I have not yet met face-to-face, we interact regularly through social media. “It’s about more than miles; it’s about building relationships and bolstering support systems.” I dedicate all my training and races to him. Through the generosity of the race directors, I am able to send Keegan race medals, race bibs, t-shirts, and lots of fun race swag gifts.
Thank you to the D&L Heritage Half Marathon for providing a medal for my running buddy. Keegan’s medal collection continues to grow!
D&L Comment: Each year one or two race participants contact us about the IRun4 Program. We’re happy to see miles walked and run on the D&L Trail dedicated to others and providing even more than exercise, recreation, stress-relief, friendship and exploration. If you are running or walking the 2016 D&L Heritage Half Marathon on Sunday November 6, 2016, think about participating in the IRun4 Program.
