Delaware & Lehigh - June 5: National Trails Day!
Share

This year’s National Trails Day event will feature a trail dedication in Jim Thorpe and bike ride through Lehigh Gorge State Park. The trail dedication will begin at 10:30 AM at the new trailhead in Jim Thorpe. The trailhead is located at the north end of the Jim Thorpe Borough parking lot (off Catawissa St.), just north of the Rt. 903 / River St. bridge. The trail dedication will include brief remarks from local politicians and trail advocates and a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the new D&L Trail section between Jim Thorpe and Glen Onoko.

Beginning at 11:00 AM, shuttles will leave from Jim Thorpe for the trailheads at Rockport (15 miles) and White Haven (26 miles) to drop off riders heading south, back to Jim Thorpe. Shuttle passes will be available for purchase at the dedication, and bikes will be available for rental from Pocono Whitewater in downtown Jim Thorpe (a short distance from the site of the dedication). Riders can choose to follow a guided nature and historical tour from Rockport to Jim Thorpe (which requires the purchase of a shuttle pass), or they can travel at their own pace. Families are encouraged to make a loop trip between Jim Thorpe and Glen Onoko, a round-trip of approximately 6 miles. Shuttle passes will include discounts at Jim Thorpe businesses and restaurants, so plan to spend the day on the trail and in town. Hikers are also encouraged to enjoy the new section of trail.
