Trails Mean Business

Trails and trail users are the economic engine that run the outdoor recreation economy.  Bikers, walkers, runners, and paddlers are potential customers that bring money to local towns and businesses. In Pennsylvania, outdoor recreation generates $29.1 billion in annual consumer spending, 251,000 direct jobs and $1.9 billion in state and local taxes.  The D&L Trail is part of this success producing over $19 million in total economic impact.

Business Survey

Help the D&L and other businesses track how trails and trail users impact local businesses.   By collecting data on businesses we can share best practices and demonstrate that trails are a great investment. All data is confidential and will be aggregated to show total impacts. (This survey is required for all Trail Friendly Businesses)

D&L Trail Friendly Business

The Trail Friendly Business (TFB) program recognizes and promotes businesses that create a welcoming environment for D&L Trail users.

Businesses are evaluated for their trail user friendliness and access to the D&L Trail. All applicants receive personalized feedback to help meet program standards. Approved businesses earn D&L Trail Friendly certification for two years and are promoted through press releases, social media, and multiple listings on our website.

Trail users seek more than great paths—they look for places to eat, shop, relax, and stay. The TFB program connects trail visitors and local residents with local businesses and provides guidance on amenities and best practices to create a trail-friendly atmosphere. Businesses that apply and are approved receive the following benefits:

  • A promotion package and trail user insights
  • A free window decal identifying them as a D&L Trail Friendly Business
  • Permission to use the TFB logo in marketing materials
  • A listing on delawareandlehigh.org with business details
  • A social media announcement recognizing their designation
  • When applicable, inclusion on Trail Town Ride Guide maps and rack cards (featured in the next print update)
