The D&L Trail is long and the gaps are many, but one area where progress is being made is in the Delaware Canal section. This is due in large part to the strong partnerships that manage and support the trail in this southernmost region. Here is an update of the remaining four big gaps on the trail and what stages they are in.
Building the D&L Trail is like a huge, very complicated jigsaw puzzle. Think about it for a moment… we are re-connecting a 190 year old transportation system that has been disturbed by railroads, highways, modern municipal services, multiple landowners and (sometimes) neglect.
Roughly a year ago I wrote about the trials and tribulations of trail development in the Lehigh Valley. Those projects, currently eight if you are counting, are predominantly in Lehigh County and some in Northampton County. You may have noticed that the Mansion House Bridge at Jim Thorpe truss system was recently placed onto the bridge abutments.
