We’re in the home stretch of our Get Your Tail on the Trail 165-Mile Challenge, which wraps up on November 8 with the completion of the D&L Heritage Half Marathon Run and Walk! Autumn in the D&L Trail’s Anthracite Region brings crisp mountain air and vibrant foliage, as well as some of the best trail days of the year. Whether you’re paddling, cycling, running, walking, or rolling, fall in love with the D&L Trail Towns of Carbon and Luzerne County this season!
Want to get your tail on the trail with your canine companion in Carbon County? Traverse the D&L Trail in East Penn Township and then swing by the 8th Annual Bowmanstown Dog Show on October 2nd at 11 a.m. at the Oliver Solt Pavilion at 259 Lime Street, Bowmanstown, PA 18030. This fundraiser for Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected showcases the community’s furry friends. Lehighton Outdoor Center is a Gold Sponsor of this benefit which raises funds for park enhancements and Blessing Boxes of non-perishable food donations for residents in need.
The D&L Trail is fully connected through Carbon County and a great way to cover the stretch is on two wheels. Hop on a bike at Pocono Biking in Jim Thorpe and cruise down to Weissport! Head over the bridge from the Trailhead to Chantilly Goods for a hand-spun milkshake made from local dairy – just like Pocono Mountains Magazine did this Summer:
For multi-day excursions in Luzerne County, stay at the Victorian Connection in White Haven. The D&L Trail runs along Main Street downtown, which boasts charming eateries and shops, like Otter’s Odds & Ends. Park your bike and take a break by the Caboose in the center of town before touring the White Haven Area Community Library, a restored Lehigh Valley Railroad engine house.
Further north, download the Walkitecture app to experience the historic architecture of Downtown Wilkes-Barre as you stroll to the Northern Terminus of the D&L Trail.
Remember, no matter where you are throughout the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, our D&L Trail Friendly Businesses have got your back in all five counties. Whether you’re in need of a water bottle refill, bike tire patch, map, or tips on what to visit in town, ask the friendly staff at these locations!
