As of November 18, 2016, trail construction is complete and the ribbon has been cut so this section is open and improved for bicycle and pedestrian safety! We hope D&L Trail users enjoy the improvements.
The trail between Lehigh Canal Park – Weissport Trailhead and Lehighton as it crosses the river is “share the road”. Pedestrians can use the sidewalks and cyclists can ride in the road. We recommend that inexperienced riders or families with young children use caution and walk on the sidewalk.
This section leaves the canal towpath, crosses the Lehigh River and follows the abandoned railroad tucked snuggly against a steep mountainside with the river always in view. The Marvin Gardens Trailhead is also very close to a Lehigh River Water Trail access point called West Bowmans.
