The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, the Borough of Freemansburg, and the Bethlehem Area School District partnered to create the Freemansburg Canal Education Center (FCEC) at the Lock 44 canal complex in Freemansburg.

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is training volunteers to develop, interpret and maintain Freemansburg’s historic Lock 44 canal area. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for students and adults, clubs and organizations. Lock 44 is a Bethlehem Area School District-approved community service site. You can help with events and activities ranging from student field trips to weekend tours to equipment maintenance and repair
