Trail Section: Jim Thorpe (East) – Weissport

Status: Obstruction within trail section, see description

Distance: 3.5

The below closure is STILL RELEVANT- an updated timeline will be provided when DLNHC has an update from the trail landowner. This post will be removed when the project is complete.

TRAIL CLOSURE (MILE 106.1-102) The D&L Trail is CLOSED between the Mansion House Bridge in Jim Thorpe (MM 106.1) south to the Weissport Trailhead (MM 102) while two Canal Overflows are reconstructed. This trail section is under active construction and is closed for PUBLIC SAFETY. Please respect the construction crews repairing the trail. Trail users should turn around and NOT attempt to pass.

This rehabilitation project will reconstruct the two dips in the D&L Trail for improved safety and accessibility. Funding for this project came from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

Please contact the Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission with questions at [email protected]

This section of D&L Trail follows the Lehigh Canal towpath from the trailhead in Weissport north to downtown Jim Thorpe. The trail offers views of the river, the trout-filled canal, lock and building remnants, and forested mountain slopes.

Adjacent Trails

Thank you for visiting the D&L Trail Interactive Map.

Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (DLNHC) is a nonprofit organization that convenes over 30 local landowners that build and maintain the trail from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol.

Please Note: if there is an obstruction within a trail section the entire trail section will be noted as “obstructed”. Be sure to read the description of each trail section to learn the extent of the obstruction and how it may impact your trip. The information on this map is updated with information provided by landowners. An update will remain posted until the landowner confirms it is no longer relevant.

When on the trail you are in a public space and natural area, and you may encounter a range of wildlife, plants, and people. There are unhoused individuals along sections of the D&L Trail that travel through heavily populated areas. The perception of safety is different for each trail user – please stay alert and plan accordingly for your personal comfort level. For more information visit our Plan Your Trip page.
